Medieval site — Near Palaeopoli, ~6km from Kamariotissa
Built during the Venetian occupation to defend against pirate raids, this hilltop tower near ancient Palaeopoli is a different layer of the island's history from the Hellenistic and Roman ruins nearby — medieval rather than ancient.
The exterior is accessible (the interior isn't open to visitors), and the weathered stone walls are intact enough to make out the original construction. The hilltop position, chosen for defence, now doubles as one of the better viewpoints over this stretch of coast.
