When to go
Mild winters and warm, breezy summers make Alexandroupolis a year-round coastal escape. July and August bring the warmest sea and the busiest promenade; late spring and early autumn offer close to the same weather with a fraction of the crowds, and are the best windows for birdwatching in the Evros Delta.
Getting here
Fly into Alexandroupolis's Demokritos Airport (AXD), a short taxi ride from the centre, or arrive by train or long-distance bus from Thessaloniki and beyond. The city is also the last major stop before the Turkish border, making it a natural stopover for overland travellers through Thrace.
Getting around
Once you're here: rent a car for day trips into Thrace, book the ferry across to Samothraki, arrange an airport transfer, or connect onward by bus or train.
