Gorge — Near Xiropotamos village
Xiropotamos Gorge sits a short drive from Kamariotissa, near the village of the same name, and offers an easier alternative to Samothraki's more demanding hikes — dense vegetation, running streams, and shaded trails rather than steep climbs.
The main draw beyond the scenery is a pair of old watermills along the path, Milos Platon Terzis and the so-called Old Turkish Mill — real working relics of the island's agricultural past rather than a reconstruction.
The terrain is easy to moderate, with some uneven, occasionally slippery ground near the water, and it's best avoided right after heavy rain when stream levels rise. Spring brings the fullest streams and wildflowers; a morning or late-afternoon visit gives the best light.
