Museum — Palaeopoli, next to the Sanctuary
The Archaeological Museum sits right beside the Sanctuary of the Great Gods in Palaeopoli, and is worth pairing with a visit there rather than skipping — it houses the actual finds from a site that's been excavated since the 19th century.
The collection runs from prehistoric pottery and burial items through votive offerings and ceremonial objects from the Sanctuary itself, architectural fragments, Hellenistic and Roman coins and jewellery, and Byzantine religious pieces — with exhibits that explain the secretive Kabeirian Mysteries initiation rites the Sanctuary was built around, and the discovery context of the Winged Victory, now in the Louvre.
The museum is wheelchair accessible, has multilingual labelling, and combo tickets with the archaeological site are typically available — a practical, worthwhile stop directly on the way in or out of the Sanctuary.
